My mom had a Hoosier cabinet with a metal bread drawer.  She kept the bread 
in a plastic bag in the drawer.  There were 6 of us, so it went 
quickly.  Seems it might dry out or attract bugs if it were naked, or get 
moldy if it was dressed ... depending on the climate.

Give it a test and let us know ... I have the Hoosier, but have art 
supplies in it!
