Bread-Bakers v101.n018.8

This my first experience with a bread machine  and I'm very fond of it. It 
does a great job and takes the work out of making bread. I have a question 
about the whole wheat bread setting. After placing all the ingredients in 
the pan and selecting "Start" the machine just does nothing for a half 
hour. The Keep Warm light is lit but nothing else seems to be happening.

Is there a reason for the long rest before the machine goes to work? When 
making white or French bread the machine starts right off.
